flowchart Making handmade paper is a simple procedure. The Basic Process
The basic process of making handmade paper can be summarized as separating fiber from non-fibrous material, processing the fiber so that individual fibers become separated from each other, suspending the fibers in water, forming a sheet using a mold and deckle, and laying the sheet on a surface to dry.

In forming a sheet, the fibers become entwined. When the entwined fibers dry, they form a strong bond. The strength of this bond determines the strength of the paper.
