Responding to tag questions

Students often have a problem knowing how to respond to tag questions. Actually it's very simple. Treat the tag question as a yes/no question.

Examples:

• Today isn't Friday, is it? = Is today Friday?
• Today is Friday, isn't it? = Is today Friday?

• You're from Kaohsiung, aren't you? = Are you from Kaohsiung?
• You're not from Kaohsiung, are you? = Are you from Kaohsiung?

Native speakers of Chinese have problems with this because in Chinese, one answers the most similar form in a different way.

Example:

• 今天不是禮拜五，對不對？
• 今天是禮拜五，對不對？
